Employee Single Specialty Group
This is a 170 plus bed, short-term, acute care hospital located on the eastern border of
Ohio, just about one hour from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The hospital's service area includes approximately 80,000 people in a fifteen mile radius. A glimpse of our Medical Staff Directory of 75 members clearly indicates a well-trained
staff capable of providing diverse care such as Anesthesiology, Cardiology,
Dentistry, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology,
Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology and
Surgery including Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and Thoracic/Vascular.
A Laser Surgery Program, including CO2 and YAG Laser capabilities, began several
years ago. In July of 2003, we began a low-risk heart catheterization lab in
which we are able to do low risk heart catheterizations as well as
non-intervential radiology procedures.
Our 24 hour Emergency Department is staffed with four (4) Board Certified
Emergency Physicians and treats in excess of 30,000 patients per year. The
hospital owns a CT Scanner and a new MRI scanner. In addition, we have State of
the art diagnostic equipment throughout the other clinical areas of the hospital.
The community and area have long been recognized as a fine
place to live and raise a family. Residents in the area have the advantages
of small town living, including lower housing costs and
tax rates, as well as access to the amenities of a big city. Pittsburgh,
rated America's #1 most livable city a few years ago, as well as Cleveland and
Youngstown, are quite convenient when seeking entertainment such as fine
dining, ballet, theater, opera, concerts and major sporting events.
This is a progressive community hospital that continues to
positively respond to the myriad of changes that are taking place in the
healthcare arena on a daily basis. We have maintained an excess of revenue
over expenses for the past ten years, when many hospitals across the country
were closing, and added new programs and services for our community in spite
of decreasing revenue dollars from our payment sources.
Several years ago the hospital concluded a $9 million dollar renovation
project which included: OB/GYN Department including LDRP rooms, a new
Pediatric Unit, an expanded Emergency Room including designated trauma areas,
an Outpatient Service area for Surgery, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy
and Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.
We are also in the midst of putting together a current strategic plan which will include
increased access to the emergency room, a helipad actually on site here at the hospital and changing several of our inpatient rooms to private rooms for increased patient privacy.
As far as the demographics go, the following chart is based upon recent activity in this fiscal year on payor mix (in %'s).
CHARGES # INPATIENTS OTHER PATIENTS
Medicare 48 48 32
Medicaid 18 22 23
Self Pay 6 4 7
Other 28 26 38
The all other categories is made up of many smaller managed care companies and
workers comp companies of which none of them have a major market share in our
service area. Thus, there is no other one dominant insurer that we deal with.
Most of the products offered to our people are either point of service or PPO
type products, with very little to no HMO products being offered.
